St Helens dispute over TLRs

Five subject co-ordinators are all to lose MA's. All staff can apply for
two new management posts which attract TLR's. Subject co-ordinators
are expected to continue to carry out these duties without additional
pay. Because two of them were temporary MA's, two colleagues are
already losing money.

Our members have taken 4 days strike action. Three more days are
planned for this week and we have given notice for three more days
next week.

NASUWT members at the school are also taking strike action over
TLR's. This really is unity in action!

Apart from the first day of action, the school has been kept open for
pupils. The LEA have been assisting the Headteacher in keeping the
school open sending in advisors. On one day the Director of Childrens'
Services taught a class.

Strikers have been picketing every day and have been successful in
getting parents onside. Parents have signed a letter we put together
and have circulated their own petition in support.

Socialism 2006 looks like being an excellent weekend on November 25/26th. We've got a wider range of speakers and debates than ever - something for everyone.

There should also be an opportunity for Socialist Party teachers to meet on the Sunday to discuss union work.

The details of the event are on the website
www.socialism2006.net
You can also buy tickets online at that site.
